Year 2007

As promised the report from April.  I spent this April in New Zealand and what a fantastic place it is to fish.  The rivers are full of Trout and the Lakes to, they run clear and are a fisherman’s dream.

I was lucky enough to fish with a guide, Ian Jenkins, on the Tongariro at Turangi south of Taupo.  This is a fast flowing river with deep pools and fish to die for I managed to take home 2 trout of about 4lbs and lost 2, 1 was released because at 3.5lbs it was too small( minimum size limit 450mm) all taken up stream nymphing.  You don’t need to take any tackle to NZ as there are plenty of shops that will hire out all the kit. There are numerous guides but look for one that is New Zealand Professional Guides Association.  Licences, well what can I say out side of Taupo it looks like you need one to fish all the rivers and lakes and in Taupo a special licence is required for the region  as it is still run and owned by the Mauri.

See Ian‘s web site in the links.  If you think we have some large lakes and reservoirs take a look at Taupo 600 square kilometres and 185m deep and we have problems reading our reservoirs for where to fish! Luckily Taupo has a map showing the hot spots. If you are thinking of going drop me an email or call and I will be happy to give you some advice.

Year 2008

Welcome to a new Season.

The beginning of the year has been a good one with fish moving just below the surface and fish taking nymph and fry patterns at Hollies, with fish to 4.5lbs being taken on tuition days.

There are not going to be any jollies abroad this year but personally I will be looking to fish the Exe a lot more than I have.

There are still a number of weekend days free but are being booked  up as far as October already
